Pre-Birthday Sand Dune

Tenting on a sand dune sounds crazy! But we did it the day before my dad’s birthday. The sand dune was fun, tiring, and an amazing pre- celebration of my dad’s birthday.

It was a long hike up the crest of the sand dune as we sinked down the sand with every step we took.

Two days before my dad’s birthday, we had a lot to prepare. Since we were traveling, we had to get every thing done in one day. That was really hard because we were trying to be secretive while he was right beside us doing his work. When he left to bike with our mom to see the sunset, we took the opportunity to make my dad’s happy birthday banner. That took about two whole hours because we drew every letter, then colored it and out lined it, and lastly taped it to the strings. The reason why we had to finish that day is because the next day we will climb a sand dune and tent there.

The sand dune was super difficult and hard, because we climbed it the wrong way. Once we got to the top we met someone who climbed this sand dune every day! He taught us that when you climb the sand dune, you stick your feet in 45 degree angle. After we tried his way, climbing up was a breeze. I wish we could have learn the proper way before we climbed up.

When we got to the top of the sand dune we played in the sand and watched the stars. We went to the highest peek of the sand dune to play in the sand. We had a lot of fun. We would roll down the sand dune, and “angel down” too. “Angel down” means like doing a snow angel but on sand. You can go down pretty fast. After playing in the sand, we continued to enjoy gazing at the stars. By then it’s almost 12 pm, so we started to count down to my dad’s birthday. Afterwards we were all getting tired and wanted to sleep.

We used the tent canvas as a floor covering and camped on top of it.

After the count down we tried to settle for the night. The problem was we were trying to tent on a slope, thus, we were afraid if we sleep in our tent we would slide down. In the end we decided to sleep on top of our tent cover. However in the middle of the night I got a little cold, so I went under the tent cover and basically slept on the sand. In the morning we got up and saw the beautiful sunrise, and took sunrise pictures with our birthday banner for dad. Our time on the sand dune was a exotic experience. It was fun and super cool to tent on the sand dune.

Even though climbing the sand dune was difficult, but getting up there was worth it. Up at the sand dune we had a blast. I hope my dad had a great pre birthday.
